Welcome to the Room
Hey, I’m Jewels—writer, speaker, observer, sometime troublemaker (in the best way).
This space is for stories that live in the margins of meetings. The things we don’t say out loud in rooms there were never built for us—but still expect us to smile in.
I’ve spent a long time proving I belong—at jobs, at tables, in systems designed to pretend they’re neutral. But here? I’m not proving anything. I’m telling the truth.
This Substack is part memoir, part cultural reflection, part sharp wit. Sometimes personal. Sometimes petty. Always honest.
You’ll find:
Stories from the workplace, especially as a Black woman navigating white-centered spaces.
Reflections on power, silence, code-switching, and language.
Character-driven moments that might show up in my writing—or already have.
Possibly a few screenshots or cultural moments I need to process out loud.
If you’ve ever held your tongue in a Zoom meeting, but maybe rolled your eyes so hard in the back of your head—or said the one thing that shifted the whole vibe—this is for you.
Thanks for being here.
Pull up a chair. Let’s own the room.
